Mykhailo Mudryk cleared to return to action following doping ban resolution

Mykhailo Mudryk is available for selection once more. The Chelsea winger has been cleared to return to competitive football with immediate effect following the resolution of his doping ban, which had kept him sidelined since November 2024.

The path to resolution

The 25-year-old was originally handed a four-year suspension after testing positive for a low concentration of meldonium. However, the case has been revisited following significant shifts in World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) reporting standards. According to the FA, had the sample been collected under current technical requirements, the concentration levels would not have triggered a positive test.

Had Misha's sample been analysed under today's technical requirements, it would not have been reported as a positive test and no anti-doping rule violation would have resulted.

While Mudryk accepted that he had committed the anti-doping rule violations (ADRVs) as charged under the regulations at the time, the FA and WADA agreed to resolve the appeal proceedings, effectively counting his period of ineligibility as the time already served.

Looking ahead

Chelsea issued a statement welcoming the outcome, noting that the scientific advancements in testing reliability were a crucial factor in the agreement. The club emphasized that this resolution allows all parties to move forward.

Mudryk, who joined the Blues from Shakhtar Donetsk in January 2023 for £88m, now faces the challenge of reintegrating into the squad after a lengthy period of inactivity. His return provides an unexpected, albeit necessary, boost to the attacking options available at Stamford Bridge.
